They're in Amplexus as I'm typing this. They go into amplexus at least once a month and it always lasts for 3 or 4 days to a week. So maybe one week on and 3 weeks off. The tank they're in is very humid. I'd say extremely humid. So that's what may be triggering it. I have 1.1 RETFs. They get a little darker when they're in amplexus for a few days and I used to worry that it was a strain on them going through that. So I make sure there is enough to eat in the tank when they separate, although they do eat while in Amplexus. They behave the same way whether they lay eggs or not. Mind you - there are a lot of plants in that tank so maybe sometimes I've failed to notice thier eggs?
To be quite honest with you I'm still unsure what stimulates them to go into amplexus. My feeling at this point is when they are well fed and "feeling good" it happens. Temperature is about 77 - 79 in the day and falls to about 72 at night. Humidity is steady around 85 - 90%. I have digital meters with sensors. Lighting is on from 6:45 to 21:30 - my lights simulate sunrise and sunset. (they don't just come on full and shut off suddenly)
Hope that helps.
