Default Dart Frog Vivarium Rack - Construction Log

There's a new story entry added:

Dart Frog Vivarium Rack - Constraction Log

Quote:
Here's the story of my dartfrog rack construction. It took me a while to figure things out and to plan everything, so there would be no surprises later. You can click on the images to get a larger view. Warning, there's a lot of pictures so be patient if you have a slower connection.

I made this rack with several key ideas in mind. I wanted to create as maintenance free setup as possible. I didn't want to become a slave of my own hobby and keep maintaining my tanks constantly. At the same time I wanted to have as close of a habitat replication as possible. Here was my dream list... I wanted it all !

Thats fantastic! I really like the way you came up with a way to keep the front glass fog free. So as I understand it, all the vivs in the same row end up sharing the same air?
Each viv is beautifully put together. I think you just found yourself a way to make income when you retire. You could make those for people who aren't able to make them themselves, like me .
One last question, what kind of palm plant is that that you are using in your vivs? I've seen something similar being sold, and get this, as a plant for the fresh water aquarium! I watched as the weeks went by and the plants slowly melted away in their store.
What kind of frogs have you got in there?
Thanks for posting, its a good learning post!

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, all the air is coming from in between the canopy. Then it's vented out and not mixed with other tanks. Don't know about retirement plans... That's just a regular palm that is commonly found in all tropical sections in hardware stores. Grows very well in the wettest environments. Drawback is that after about a year of growing it shoots these long leaves, then it's time to replace it or cut it back. Right now I'm waiting for more thumbnails. Currently there are some azureus, auratus (3 types), tincs, vents and pumilios.

Sounds like a nice collection!
I have recently decided to start with pumilios since I read they are the ones that can take the highest temps. I don't want to expose them to temps above 80, its just I want them to be able to take the occasional spike. In my apartment that occasional spike can happen any season.

80 is not a problem at all for pumilios. During breeding season temps stay pretty much above 80 all day long. In fact that's how I coax them into breeding, higher temps and frequent misting. I let the temp drop to about 72-75 at night.

I personally think that leucs and azureus are the easiest to start with or maybe even various tincs.
