check a local plastic/acrylic supplier for weld-on products to make water tight acrylic projects. weld-on 16 is thick and crude, but sometimes is what it takes. I think weld-on 40 is thin and runny, but will make a nice seam and bond. weld-on is not a glue, it bonds acyrlic at the molecular level.

try a google search on 'diy acrylic' or similar. I have some experience from small aquarium projects, but I'm no expert

I think you might, mine will not stick what so ever it peels right off and i know im using the right sillicone that everyone else use but it must not work on acrylic. I found acrylic sealent at home depot but not sure if it is CHEMICAL SAFE. (IT WAS BY THE PLEXI GLASS SECTION)

Default Site walk you through Acrylic contruction

Another very helpful site is

Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation Home Page

Look under aquarium construction tab and the DIY Custom Tank Building link. They walk you through everything - just remember they are making aquariums so all plexiglas is a min 1/2" thick. 1/4" is probably fine for a vivarium.
