Excited to get started!

Hello everyone! I'm so glad I found this website. I have four 20 gal. tall aquariums that I would like make two into vivariums and I'm not sure where to begin. So, I am delighted to have your advise. I guess first I'll read the posts and see what I can learn about set up. But, if anyone has any pointers for a beginner right off the bat, I'll be happy to hear from you.

Make sure you read Waterkeeper's build log, lots of step by step pictures.

I have a build log running right now too, but I'm making mine out of wood, so it wont be exactly the same. What kind of critter are you keeping/planning to keep? I am building mine for frogs, and I think the frog landings are a pretty original idea (I could be wrong) but you can feel free to look and ask any questions that you think I can answer. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Meghan, I'll read the Waterkeeper's build log. That's the kind of suggestions I was hoping for. As far as the critter...I love the tropical feel of a terraium, so frogs seem to be the best fit. I know I'll have to raise fruit flies to feed them, so I'll have to look into that also. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll check all of them out.

There are several smaller frogs that actually eat crickets, like Green Tree Frogs (you'll see that abbreviated GTF, btw), I don't currently have any of them, but I do have a very similar frog called a squirrel tree frog. I don't think you can get mine in a pet store though, I caught mine back home in SC. I think it is generally just the Poison Dart Frogs (PDF is the abbreviation we use) eat fruitflies, but I could be wrong! Would you like me to look up some species for you for suggestions? I am thinking of getting some Red Eye Tree Frogs (RETF... I'm sure you are seeing a pattern here, lol...) I think they are very beautiful, but I'm not sure what they eat. Waterkeeper has some though, so you could enquire there. Good luck! Take time setting everything up and getting it just how you want it before you get your animals, it is sooooo much easier that way.
