Default Farse Tree

I'm looking to make a fake tree stump in a 56 gal that I have, that will reach to the top of the tank... I was planning on using the coco bedding, silicone, Great stuff technique... anyone have any suggestions on how I could get this started?

Nice idea. I've never done that. How about wire frame to start off?

I never thought of that... That could work a lot better than what I was planing on doing, So what you're saying is to wireframe the look of the tree and then foam it?

Also, is there a risk of rusting that could hurt the animals?

I was thinking sketch out what you want to do. Then use hangars, I would bend them into shape with pliers. If this is going into a water area then you'd have to make sure you use the wireframe as a kind of reverse mold that you would remove later .... or.... have it completely embedded into the GS so it wouldn't rust.

After the wireframe is done I would layer it with something neutral like plastic. Another thought was using mosquito netting. Maybe creating small dents simulating the bark. Then coating it with GS. After the GS is dry you could carve it out with a knife to make have recesses and bark like features? After that coat with silicone and while still wet sprinkle the coco bedding? After it's cured maybe removing the wireframe skeleton?

Dunno if that's good?

I think that if a enough Silicone is used then maybe it would be safe... also if the GS was used, then covering the entire wireframe in it would do just as well... I wonder if it could be possible to just do the tree stump in GS, Paint it up and add some coco bedding sparsely all over the trunk..?

GS won't hold up on it's own while wet. But you could always try? Maybe coating an acutual piece of a treebranch with all the little branches cut off.....then trying layers .... put a layer of GS on and letting it dry then repeating......letting each layer dry and then keep adding and letting them dry ? Eventually getting to the right thickness and height?
