Default My first Aqua-terrarium

Ive decided to convert my aquarium to a aqua terrarium. This is currently housing a pearl guarami and a bronze corydorhas. These will be rehoused in my brother in law's tank.

I am going to house a terrapin and maybe some other animals in this and will have a lot of land and a brackish pool and was wondering if anyone had any help and advice on it.

Many thanks,
Mattb22

Do you have any plans on how to do it? What are the dimensions and size of the tank?
Nice idea!

Well, My tanks dimensions are 24"x12"x12" but I have a 30 gal tank for when the terrapins get bigger.

Erm I plan to have a brackish rock pool on the left hand side with a filter and heater In the land part will be built out of the water by siliconed slate. This will be built up with sand and gravel, and will be the basking area with a low wattage heat lamp above it. There will also be a few medium sized rocks here and maybe a few live plants but am not sure what yet as I havn't researched into the plants.

Eventually there will probably be a smalll mister in here and a waterfall made by running a tube from the outlet of the filter over the rocks.

Many thanks matt B.

i have a few questions:

out of curiousity, why brackish?

how deep are you planning for the water? i was just womdering because in a 12" tall tank and having the substrate (for the land) elevated above the waterline, it doesnt leave much air space on land.

why not go wiht the 30g off the bat?

id like to help you plan this as ive done a few plaudariums, or aquaterrariums, or whatever you want to call them. they can really be a pain in the butt, but you can really make them a lot nicer than aquariums or vivariums if you plan and execute well. it just takes a little more to combine the two ideas succesfully.

The normal term for a mixed land water viv is paludarium.
