Default backround Question?

does this sound reasonable for a background? Start with great stuff on glass, let dry, shape, apply plaster of paris, shape, wash, apply stone texture spray paint from walmart, then apply a clear coat. Please someone let me know. I am more concerned about the plaster if it will crumble under the humidity.

I wouldn't use plaster of paris since it would probably "melt" under the humid conditions of the tank. Stone texture spray will probably be poisonous to any animals or even plants that you add, and only clear varnish can be used as a "clear coat," but it will eventually slough off...

If a "rock" look is what you're going for, get some foam boards at a craft store, shape them as desired, and coat them in two colors of tinted concrete (mixed with extra water into a soupy mixture) and sand away the lighter top coat to reveal the darker bottom coat in places of "shadow." Allow this to cure for several days or a week if you can. Then silicone your rockface into your tank and you're ready to start planting, or whatever...

I've seen the method proposed by Dryn implemented. I agree that is the best way to go. It looks super realistic.

wow that is amazing. I think that would be really fun to make. I think it would be great to have the money to buy two tanks. One to put the frogs in now, and one to take my time and work on. Making it perfect and then put the frogs in that tank, then work on the other tank. So when I was done that tank I'd have an excuse to get more frogs. hehehe My evil plan.

I keep White's tree frogs by the way, and tomorrow I'm going to buy their new tank... then I'll work on decorating it over the next couple of months, picking something else up for it every pay day or something. Unfortuinitly I think I'm going to have to stick with fake plants. I was really hoping to be able to go live.
