Exclamation Glue, is it safe?

Today i bought glue for my false bottom. Its called 'Serious Glue' from evo-stik. Its good from -30c to 130c and waterproof. Its the only glue i could find that was solvent free and no 'harmful', 'poisonous' or 'harmful to the environment' warnings, in fact it has no hazard warnings at all. Is it safe for tree frogs, it'll be in the bottom so im worried about water contamination?

Hard to say... I'd use silicone. I guess you'll know in a few weeks after you put the animals in

I’d prefer not to find out that way!

I bought a hot glue gun today and rebuilt it, it says not for use in humid areas but its none toxic and others have used it so im taking a chance. Id prefer for my false bottom to collapse than the frogs!! Has anyone used hot glue on a false bottom??

I would use silicone!!! If its strong enough to hold tanks together it should hold a false bottom in place. And we all know its frog friendly!

how is the false bottom being made? does it even need glue? if your using pieces of pvc pipe to hold up egg crate, you might not even need anything to hold it together. might be able to just stand the pipe where its needed and lay the egg crate on top. it would depend on the diameter of the pipe and whether or not you plan on moving the tank though.

i used hot glue in my large viv on the stream i used to have that was made of several pieces of plastic. had mixed results with it. it did work for a while, and a drop of it that fell in the middle of it never came off despite constantly being under water, but some of the glue that was holding the pieces together weakened and caused leaks. might depend on the glue itself though.

main problem i see with hot glue is that it isn't flexible like silicon. so if you use it on a false bottom and don't equally support the weight anytime its being handled, any bending/twisting of it could make the glue fail.

Well there is piping holding up the false bottom in several spots (to make sure ), the hot glue is only being used to hold the parts for the pond area and the pump housing in place. There'll be very little stress on the joins once the gravel is poped in i think.

Have a gander at the link below, its gonna be a construction journal but its only at the begging, there’s pics of the false bottom at the bottom of the thread so tell me if you think it'll survive or any other feedback at all!

And thanks for all the help folks it’s really helping, keep it coming!

Here we go!!
