Default using playsand?

Iam in the process of building a water feature. My question is can i use play sand to fill in the space the gravel doesnt fill in, or should i buy some speacial type of speacial sand. Not totally sure what type of animal is going in this enclosure yet. I am pretty sure my son is still going to want darts though. Thanks

regular play sand is silicate based and will leech minerals and garbage into your water promoting unwanted algea and whatnot.

Este's makes a play sand suitable for FW aquarium use.
