before you do anything. silicone the back of he viv you want silicones whether it be just the back or the sides a little too. then silicone in the eggcrate. then great stuff on the egg crate lightly since it expands try to do it like a centimeter away so it will expand into it evenly. if you have problems you can just cut out all the pieces to make the edges straight. then gs everything else. then comes the wood(cork bark, tree fern, driftwood. etc), silicone again like the back of the tank on everything and cocofiber if you are going this route kristy

ha ha lol...i just woke up and i was still a little drowsy and thought your message really said "no thanks" instead of ok thnaks. lol whatever gs expands into the eggcrate....put your hand into it on the inside and scrape or cut out the extra gs to make it smooth so you can do maintenance on the water feature. you want to make sure when you do it that the eggcrate lies flat with the top of the viv....so no one can wiggle in also make sure the eggcrate gets hiddden by the gs. its easy once you get a hang of it. i think you'll do just fine and post some pics of going along if u can.....that way if you need help with anything, there to help. kristy

Also, you can apply vasoline or something else that will make a waterproof barrier to the filter, and then apply the GS, let it cure, then pop out the filter (if you don't want to have the filter BEHIND something). I just made a mold with a bowl for some hides for my BP, and I did this, it worked just fine. Take a look at the 10 gallon build thread, brackish/crab, in there she talks about how she did her filter in a similar way to what I am talking about. Using this method gives you more options, I think.

I was going to recommend wrapping the filter in wax paper or aluminum foil that will allow you to slide out the filter and peel out the paper after the GS cures. you will have a nice slot custom fitted for your filter.
