Ive had this vivarium setup for about a year and its configuration seems great except that I ran into a few kinks trying to use temperate mosses. The first problem being temperate mosses's dormancy and drying out cycles which isnt going to work in a year round tropical environment. The second problem I encountered is the importing of critters on the moss I collected. I got some quater inch long centipedes (im not certain that they are centipedes) that were breeding rapidly. They did an excellent job of mulching and airating the soil which im not sure I wanted. Particularly since they were leaving 1/16" spore all over the glass. Not to mention that they are probably poisonous.
So anyway I got rid of the centipedes using Marty's method of dry ice oxygen starvation (cheers to Marty). Then I replaced the moss with strictly tropical mosses and replaced some of the larger ferns and plants growth with some drawf bromeliads. I want plenty of possible breeding locations.
I think Ill let it grow in for a few months but if anyone has any suggestions about plants or use of space Id love to hear it.
