Question Have you seen my mommy??

Yeah.. , I get to be the first to post an id picture here!! I guess most people go into this "buying" their frog already identified...but that would have been the easy way. I ran across a tankful of polywogs at my local Petco (cheap too, like $1.65 each) and not only felt sorry for the little guys, but thought it would be a fun family project to watch them morph and then have some froggies. I went back several times to check the name and look it up on the web...but the tag said Rana - Ranidae Species...which narrows it down to over 200 frogs. But I found this one site that asked "features" questions to narrow down what you had. It ruled out Bullfrog, but landed in the neighborhood of a California red or yellow legged frog...but neither has red or yellow legs...back to the drawing board. So here are some pics of these lovely beasts...can anyone help with the identity?

I guess it was too hopeful to think that PetCo would use a responsible-like intention when stocking Tadpoles to be region specific to the region they are found naturally....in case a bewildered customer decides to "return the animal to nature" and let's it go in a near by pond/stream. It would be more characteristic to sell pollywogs that could only survive outdoors in 50-80 degree weather and sell to customers in areas it snows!! **NOT TO SAY THAT I WANT TO RELEASE MY LITTLE GUYS...I don't**

Check these little guys out:

Those look A LOT like my bullfrogs when they were at that size. However, if you're SURE you have ruled out bullfrogs, Green frogs look almost identical, they just don't get as big and they also have a lateral ridge that runs from the back of their ear alongside the body all the way to the rear leg... Looked like yours had that, so they might be green frogs.

Happy froglovin'!
Jeff
