Default nocturnal frogs

Hi Everyone
I'm a newy to this forum & would like some info on keeping nocturnal froggies.
1) Would a 36"x18"x18" tank be suitable for 3 or 4 moss frogs?. I envisage having 24" water area & 12" land With live plants most likely ferns.
2) Would one need UV lights ??. Considering they are nocturnal & basically aquatic.
1 5x2x2 reef tank
1 Green tree python ( very unsociable )
2 Tentacled snakes - looking for another 2 hopefully a pair

Hey there! Welcome to the forum.

1: yes that size is good for 4 mossies. 1/3 land is good. I'd suggest looking around for some other plants also because ferns can get quite large when they grow. Maybe too large for that tank.

2: UV lights are not necessary. But you might want to go with standard fluorescent lighting. It will definitely help with your plant growth.

Thanks for the reply Green Ghost & details
I will be having either T5 or power compaq lighting ( should have been more specific earlier ). The ferns I want are "filmy ferns" & wont grow that big ( unless the genus Leptopteris )
Also ( I apologise in advance if I cant put this in the general forum ) is there any licensed breeders of PDF's in the US that can export them with documents eg CITES etc & is 30 deg C ( day temp. )too much for them although the temp would drop down a few deg. at night

U.V is not essential but there is alot of evidence and on going research that says it is very benaficial to frogs, even the nocturnal ones. red eyes are as nocturnal as they come and they recomended to have a u.v tube. although they do not need light to see or hunt the rays are still absorbed and there are many good things that come from them and it helps with bone development and matabalism.

i have U.V on all my frogs and toads, and i would recomend a u.v as i have seen the difference it makes as i never used to have it. live plants will also thrive under the u.v.

U.V is a good feature for the viv if you can afford it but not a needed item. Mossy frogs will enjoy some overhanging plants and rocks in their water area. Mossys are Climbers too and will like some sturdy plants to climb and hide in. keep in mind the more cover you have the more likely the frogs will stay in the open areas and not hide all the time. I love mossys! Some day I will have some, I swear it!!

Thanks Knighty & Rainfrog I will check out the availability of the UV tubes here & also some sturdy plants - I may set up another viv for the filmy ferns & a couple of Dossinia's ( Similar to Macodes ) which I picked up today at an orchid show. It is amazing what one cant get here unless one has a "sniffer dog" eg I enquired about "great stuff" at a Home ware or home depot & the salesman just gave me a blank look !!!!!!!!!. But a friend had seen some at another branch

as far as lighting goes, have a look at the exoterra range find their 2% uv fluoroescent bulbs, these are ideal for frogs. I think they publish their spectral details on the web so's you can compare with any other bulbs that you do find.

Thnx Captn C
I dont know if there are exoterra ( Hagen ) tubes here but I have seen "reptisun" tubes available. The only exo lines I have seen in BKK have been a few tanks ie viv's with the 2 doors. Will have a look next wednesday.
