I have 2 WTF's, a male (Lumpy) and a female (Thumpy). Lumpy got used to me quickly and is very tame. If I have my hand in the tank for any reason, he will climb up my arm, and really enjoys sitting on my shoulder or clinging to my chest. He will just sit there for a while if I'm not moving around to very much. My female, however, would much rather be left alone. When I get her out, she just tends to hop away.

I believe all frogs have different personalities, and some can deffinately be tamed if it suits them.

Had to vote with the "probable" though I was leaning towards the "instinctive". Tame is really an eye-of-the-beholder kind of thing, frogs will often just get used to our meddling in their world, and of course rewarded behavior is in the mix.
If they don't learn in the wild they don't last long.

I happened across this thread after just messing with my Gray Tree Frogs. I have five of them that I caught about a month ago out back of my house. They were teeny tiny then and have grown quite a bit. But Even though I never put my hand in to feed them they still insist on leaping all over me when I do put my hand in the cage. Just now I switched them to a bigger tank and was fixing it up for them. I had all five climb up and sit in a row on the screen watching me. All of a sudden I had 5 sticky frogs all over my chest and arms. When I put them back they jump right back to my hand or arm. It seems like they really want to be there.

Funny story. After I posted this I went to bed last night. I woke up in this morning to find that I was sleeping with three baby tree frogs lol! In my half asleep stupor I must have forgot to lock the tank cover and they managed to hop through the room their in and into where I was sleeping and hop up on my pillow. I'll be sure to lock it from now on! My pitbull was sleeping on the pillow to. Interesting morning!

Haha thats great. But I believe they seemed tamed after awhile when im cleaning my FBT enclosure peppers will just sit on my shoulder and so will Ivy. My green tree frog will sometime stick to my forehead which makes me look like an you know. But I love it the only one that hates being picked up is my young FBT.

This is a good topic so i'll add my 2 cents . Is it not funny that the herps will become tame to you but still shy around other pet like cats or dogs. they learn whats good for them. If they didn't they would go the way of the dodo. so i bet if you were ever mean to your frog(not that you ever would be) it would learn to hide from you very quick. I would say they instictivly adapt to there environment by learning what benifits them. saying you tamed it would be to much like saying you taught it a trick which prob. wouldn't happen!!! make any sense??

Yea I would agree. I was cleaning the top of the tank yesterday and my one FBT named peppers literally about leaped out of the tank onto my hand and then slid off and tried it 2 more times until I put him on my shoulder. Hes a wierd little booger but I like it.

My 6 FBTs know when they're getting fed. They all hop to the center and start leaping for the feeder tube before I can even shake out the crickets. They also know that when my "tweezers" (actually large-lizard feeding tongs) come in the tank they know to get out of the way 'cause I'm either going to re-arrange something in the tank, remove something, or seperate them due to them harrassing newer tankmates. I call the tweezers my "Froggy-Be-Good Stick" haha

The harrasment hasn't happened in a while now that I introduced everybody to the new tank at the same time, no territorial issues. Now they all hudlle together

Mine all huddle together and I have to slightly smaller ones that like to hitch rides to and from the water. They're goofy but its great to watch.
