Default day gecko set ups

just wanted to show off a few of my day geckos and their vivs. im a new member to the site, so trying to show some of the stuff i have. im a pic happy poster so i hope you dont mind.

this was my first day gecko. hes a gold dust and about 4 years old now. ive had him just about 3 years. he produced a few eggs with his mate, but she passed about 2 years ago. i recently purchased two juvis that i believe are turning out to be both female, so i should be able to turn out some eggs again soon.

his tank he is in is about 2 years old now. it started as a place to house a few extra plants (and him) temporarily. its turning out to be pretty cool. i add and take a lot away from it though. it catches all the extras and whenever i need a small fill in piece, i go looking in this tank for cuttings.

an older pic, but gives the idea.

heres a couple pics of my P. v-nigra comoraegrandensis. these are my latest additions.

male

female

other female

and what i think is one of my best ever gecko pics

their home, which is a custom built 12x12x20 viv i threw together for their QT period

ive allready had to seperate out one of the females and the other is showing response to the male, so i may not move them. if i do it will be into a section of a 3 part viv i built. ill have to add a few bamboo tubes, but this is what it looked like when it was first set up. its still growing in a bit.

it will be the left side in this pic

hope you enjoy and comment!

check out the cham forum as i posted a few other pics there allready. ill be posting a few more threads in the other forums as i get time today.

WOW, beautiful Geckos and Vivs!!! From the pics I see that you keep them pretty humid? What about ventilation, I've heard that lizards are fussy about stagnant air, not like amphibians.
I see those day geckos all the time at the petstore, and they are amazing. I once saw one for $9!!!! I know that was a mistake, if I had room, I would have taken it.

thanks. i do keep them pretty humid. i treat their tanks the same i do PDFs as far as ventilation and water within the viv. the main thing i do different with the geckos is their lighting. i sit the PCs directly on the top of the viv instead of raising it up a bit. this dries out and heats up the upper levels of the tnak. at the bottom they run about 80-85% humidity and about 75*. at the top of the tank its ~70% humidity and 80-85*. they sttay up at the top most of the time except for feeding. as far as ventilation im a big advocate of screen. the lids on the custom tanks are about 4-5" and the width of the tank (12"), so the glass stays clear and the air moves a bit. i set them up the same for PDFs, but just mist a bit more, and try and add some type of water feature. aslo, the PDF vivs get a lot more plants.

9$ would have been a steal. with you liking personalities of herps, youd really like day geckos (most of the manyway). the ones i have come with a tremendous amount of personality. they are always as curious about me as i am of them. they watch everything i do when im in the room. its really cool.

heres two pics of them watching me watching them

thanks Marty. the next time you see pics of any of my tanks they will have those same nozzles (or straight mount ones). i just placed an order with you last week for quite a few of them. i had emailed you about byuing all the nozzles for my whole rack (even for the vivs im not working on yet), but my book keeper (wife) would only allow me to buy for the tanks i have now

thanks for the compliments guys.

and special thanks to getting a board dedicated to vivs up and running. its much needed to bring all the small herp, and plant hobbies together on their common plane.

Ah ! You the one

Thanks for the feedback too. There seemed to be a forum for everything, but none that would allow everyone to come under one roof. Until now, if you were into frogs and geckos you had to go to two different forums, now you can show off your nice setups in one place. Not too many people know about VivariumForum yet, but once things start picking up more and I have more time I'll pimp this place up.

Aloha, Landon! That close-up of your day gecko is gorgeous! And they really do have personalities! We have really noticed that in the Gold Dusts we have in the house & on the lanai. They are so different, but it is so comical when they turn around and look you right in the eye!

Do you ever find that your day geckos, particularly the Gold Dusts, ever actually go in the water in your viv (hope I am using that term correctly; I am very new to this)? Your setups are so beautiful that I almost wouldn't mind living in them myself, but the geckos we have running around are all in a pretty dry environment. The ones in our house will crawl into the sink (and your glass, if you aren't careful) to get water, but there is never water like in your viv.

We were thinking of putting one of those decorative fountains on our lanai just to see what all the geckos would think of it -- but they generally seem to avoid the water when it rains, so we weren't sure if they would like it or not.

Thanks for any help. And thanks for your great photos! Your little guys are great. Hope you can get your Gold Dust a new mate soon - they really seem to like a mate, even if they aren't always very nice to them.

Hey i wish i lived some where i could see these guys in the wild

they dont go into the water at all. im pretty sure the gold dust could thrive in temps as low as 65-70 and humidity as low as ~50% (whats it like there?), and they can take both of those up close to the 100s.

they dont really go into the water. ive got it in there mainly for astetic reasons. they dont mind it at all and ive never seen them have a problem getting out. i like to keep them closer to their ideal range (77-82* & 80%+) and the water in their tanks help keep the humidity up.
