Default Baby Leo

I was at Petsmart today getting crickets for my anoles, when I saw him/her, and I just couldn't resist. Its a 5 gallon tank with a 50 watt spot. The rocks are from a L.F.S. that I will transplant to the larger tank when she/he is older.

VERY CUTE! Looks like it's still to young for easy sexing.

I do have a couple suggestions.
1) Provide a hidey hole on the unheated side of the tank.

2) On the heated side, provide a MOIST hidey hole. When molting time comes around, it is often very helpful -- even necessary -- for the gecko to have a moist area to hide out in. The moisture helps to loosen up the dead skin for easier removal.

Beauty! I agree with pavel on both points. Point 1 for sure. I find I dont need a moist hide but many people do. My Female Ate a pinkie mouse (F/T) last weekend. my male just licked it but my more aggressive female dove on it.

Default Baby Leo (Update)

Update.

I moved the Leo into an 18x18 exo-terra tank from the 5gal. Set up a moist hiding spot for sleeping or whatever else he does in the cave.

The guy at the petstore said that leos dont climb.... WRONG!!!!!

He likes to sleep at the top. I hope he doesn't fall...

I find most Leos climb like that when in a tank to small in the base, it may be climbing and sleeping at the top because the bottom is getting to hot and or he / she dosent feel safe down there as you have only whats looks like a single hide. Take a temp reading at all the 4 corners you may find the temp only changes a couple degrees, also buy or DIY a second or even third hide box and make sure the opening dosent face the front doors in full view of the new big monster stareing it in the face all day lol. I know with any new pet i buy i have tended to stop by the tank and peer in every hour or so just to see if it likes it or not and to see the cute bugger. I would also sugggest some branchs or vines to help him get up there, all leos like to climb provided thay have something to grab onto and i would hate to see it fall. This is what i have learned from other peoples Leo collections and i dont have my own, i could be tottaly worng with the heat VS size of floorspace but the addition of hides and branchs are a must imho.

He's sooooooo cute!!!

Leos can't climb glass or other smooth surfaces like most walls. They can, however, as you have discovered, climb rough 'rock' walls.

Don't forget to also provide him w/ a dry hidey hole too. Also you moist cave should be on the heated side of the tank

As Jason mentioned, do check the temperature -- especially where the light is actually hitting. If the light is warming up the entire floor area, bump down to a lower wattage bulb and direct the bulb to shine on one corner of the floor. If the temp of your room is in the 70's, you don't need to have the light on at all, at least IME.

Then too it may be too bright in there. Leos are dusk to dawn critters for the most part -- not bright light of day.
