Well I finaly finished the basic structure for my 10 gallon vertical tank and since PDFs are out of the questin for now I was going to get this beautifull Rough Green Snake. I saw it the ather morning and asked them to hold it for me. I went home and finished the door to my tank and let the silicon dry. I went back the next day and they had sold my snake!!!! The manager had told me the person helping me made a mistake and they cant hold things during the hollidays!!! If I had know I would have Paid for it and asked them to hold on to it over night so I could put the door on my tank. Well instead I will I am just laying it back down and I have set it up for a Leopard Gecko I will be getting Friday morning. The y ahve lots of them So I will still be able to pick one out. it realy was a beautiful snake, but I have been wanting to get a Leopard for a long time. I hade one years ago but had to give it away when I moved out of state. well any info from an exsperienced handler would be welcome.

Thats too bad about the snake. Good luck on finding your gecko. I don't have any experience with geckos, but please post pics when you get them.

from what i understand leos are pretty hardy and easy to care for. i know they are more desert than tropical animals so they should get a viv thats suits that. they are very commonly kept and are considered an entry level herp, so you can find tons of info about them on the web. a few google searches should turn up some good care sheets, if no one adds any info here.

Well I went to the LPS to get a thermometer and low and behold the snake they thought they sold was buried in the substrait!!! I just saw a little side of him and had them grab him and it was the one I had wanted!!! I could have sworn he was not there saturday! I took ia as an omen and am now the owner of a Rough Green Snake! He is gorgeous! I am still going to get a leopard but it will be afew months. I am giving some fish to fsmily for christmas and going to clean my 29 gallon tank out for my Ball Python.. That will free up my 20 long for a Leopard.

Geckos, especially Leopard Geckos, are the Kitty Cats of reptiles. They don't need any special lighting or any special supplements. Just make sure you have a desert set-up, as mentioned above, a bowl of water and a bowl of meal worms. That's pretty much it.

Make sure your substrate is Biodegratable though cause they are known for dieing of impaction. And if you get a female, give her a sand/dirt area where she can dig. Even if they aren't gravid, the females still like to dig a hole for thier eggs.

^What he said

I would also add besides their regular hiding cave to have a 'wet-hide' where they can go, especially when getting ready to shed. I use one of those zip-lock plastic containers with a hole cut in the lid so she can crawl in and just keep a bit of moist vermiculite or sphagnum moss in there.
Another option for substrate would be something they can't injest at all, especially as youngsters, like some pieces of slate, tiles or repti carpet.
And always good is some calcium powder for supplementation.

Good advice. I'm not shure when I will be getting a Leopard now, probably 4 to 6 months. I will be putting it into the 20 long that curently houses my ball python.
I do know if you put a dish of calsium powder in with them they wiil eat that and are less likley to eat the substrate. Leopards have a ravenous calsium crave and that is usualy what leads them to ead the substrate.

I just feed mine a pinky every week. I'm sure that's enough calcium and vitamins.

leopard geckos are relitivly simple to keep and breed
all you need to keep them are
10 gallon or larger tank for one gecko, 15 gallon or larger for two geckos and so on
a substrate that they cant eat like newspaper, paper towels, or repti-carpet
an undertank heater or uth
a humid hide like gone fishin said to aid in shedding
another hide on the cool end
and a food/mineral and calcium bowl and a water dish
a few rocks or wood chunks to climb over
and a lid for the tank
you can feed them meal worms or crickets as a stabe diet with no problem and as a treat wax worms or wax moths (adult worms) and pinkys i personaly dust the insects every once in a while just to be safe
