Default Big Project

So I want to start a paludarium. I got the idea from a multitude of sources but my biggest inspiration was

http://www.blackjungle.com/gallery/talltank/page1.html

Maybe not so tall, but with about 6-12" water in the bottom and a good deal of land inside with a wall of plants in the back. I contacted Glasscages

http://www.glasscages.com

and asked them if they could build me a custom setup to hold the water yet still have the sliding glass front. Has anyone here paludarium experience that could offer me advice? I'd even go so far as to listen to some constructive critisim. Once I get started, I'll post a thread showing construction step by step... Probably in the gallaries.

I can't wait to see it. I suppose its a simple as having an impermeable bottom 9" - 14", then have the front sliding glass door. But with so many inches, I suppose you would want somthing at least 3' tall.

well I wanted it to be like the one on blackjungle.com, so I went to glasscages.com and it doesn't appear they condone the putting of water in the bottom and upon request of building a custom with the bottom part waterproof and the sliding glass front starting about 12" up, they said there's no way..... to them maybe, I bet if I order that same piece, I could make the bottom part waterproof by my own means, and probably silicone a glass panel just inside of the doors, to extend frome one side to the other, thus preventing water from spilling out the front. might void my warrenty though?

Perhaps so much water exerts too much pressure for the glass to support it. You should definetly ask around some more. I know that my local aquarium store will find a tank the way you want it, so maybe you can find one of those stores and ask.

How about a 'pan' for a shower? I know they make waterproof pans for showers, you just drill a drain in them. Or some have holes already in them. Fiberglass, if I recall. Easier to seal off one hole than to try and make your own box water-proof. Of course, that might be a bigger enclosure than you are intending to make...

does it have to be sliding doors? i think it would be pretty east to build one with swigning doors. im about to build one 22x22x22. it will have a 12" door that folds down from the front. it will be able to hold about 8-9" of water, which is what im shooting for. with one the size you are talking i think a single door may not work out, but it shouldtn be hard at all to make two doors that open to the sides. ive got a buddy that built one like this. its a little smaller than what your planning but its real nice.
