Default What you guys think about these 3D backgrounds ?

Heyas,

I saw this company showing their new 3D backgrounds on another board. Regardless the price of these thing, i think they could make very good looking backgrounds. What you guys think ?

Basically, if i was to use one of them, i'd pick one shorter than my tank, and still use the expanding foam + silicone and peat to cover the rest of the tank. So, the background could occupy 80% of the background, and 20% would be left for expanding foam background and plants. I don't know yet how it's made, but if they use it in an aquarium, i guess it's safe to use in a vivarium.

I asked some questions to the seller about this, so i'll post the answers here. Comments ? Opinions ?

That would work just fine. Just make sure that you've sealed all possible ways to get behind the background. You'd hate to loose a pet behind it. I'm currently using some fake pieces of wood that I got from....PetSmart. It looks very nice, I also used some fake stones too.

here's one, made from some type of non toxic resin

They got the technique down (they - read :Indonesians ) and the pieces look very realistic...in fact, once overgrown with a bit of moss, you'd never even thing that they're not real

Those backgrounds look cool. I love the look of a tree trunk in a tank.

Who are these guys? Do they make the backgrounds to size (custom) or do they have prefabricated sizes that they sell with tanks? How do they operate? Got a link ?

Heyas,

Here's the link to their products:

http://www.aquaterra-intl.com/

There arent any prices on the site, but someone asked them about prices, here's the answer (There's a 30% discount right now, so here are the prices with the discount.).

Slimline 3D 24x16 is $66.99 = 46.90
Slimline 3D 48x24 is 199.99 = 140.02
Deluxe 3D 24x16 is 79.99 = 56.02
Deluxe 3D 48x24 is 245.99 = 172.22

Here's a copy of the answer i received from them, along with the questions:

Hi,
>
> Would you ship to Canada ?
>
> If yes, i could be interested in the 24*16 Rain Forest background. How
> much would it cost including shipping ?
>
> Also, the height of my aquarium is 15", would it be easy for me to cut
> the 1" excess ? Would it still look good ? What should i use to trim
> that 1" excess ?
_______________

Yes I can ship to Canada.
I will have to check on the shipping, but the background
is $66.99
Cutting is not a problem. Any kind hand held cutting tool can be used
to cut the background.
We are currently out of stock due to the overwhelming demand.
We have started a pre-order wait list. If you would like to place your order
now you will be guaranteed your backgrounds when the next shipment comes in.
The next shipment arrives end of Oct.

Regards,
Kevin Wai

I got the setup couple of years ago from my LFS. It was originally a display tank and I had one made exactly like that. Fortunately, the factory is nearby also and took 2 weeks to make.
