Well this post got hijacked along the ways it seems. LOL

Getting back to the original topic:
There have already been a number of very good ideas for contests -- from homemade faux rocks/plants/caves etc to pics of herps or set ups. Start simple. More difficult contests may require well defined rules to be laid out ... or not.

I like this idea of a contest. I dont get to visit the board as often as I would like to. I also am on here when most sane people are asleep. I probably would not have the time to place an entry myself but would love to see the pics and read/leave comments. I love this forum. my knowledge and interest in herpetology has only grown over the last few years since I joined. I am very grateful to every one that submits Q and A and the people that make this forum possible.

i think it would be a great idea to start one but the reviews seem to be mixed we need to get a vote on what we are doing first would it be

member of the month

viv of the month

most enginuitive viv

i say we start off simple but we can also hold a steady running contest like member of the month and viv of the month we can also go as far as herp of the month that way people cannot say it is a popularity contest because after all it isnt them winning it is their pet =)

I'm not sure I would agree with member of the month, as I don't see how that could NOT be a popularity contest. I think herp of the month and vive of the month would be the way to go.

Default contest ideas

worst frog gifts
best pics of your frogs
best viv photos
summer blooming contest

Is this the kind of relies and/or options you are looking for?

best water features:which would probably fall into the best viv photos contest

most tropical/natural looking vivs
let me brainstorm for a while lol. I'm not even sure if this is what is being looked for. let me look through the forum some more and i may be able to suggest some more options.
kristy

There has been a long running contest on ReefCentral.com a huge saltwater hobbyist forum(if you are unfamiliar go check it out.) for the "Tank of the Month" voted on every month by the forum users. They do a highlight of the winning users systems with photo's and give the owner the opportunity to present their system, talk about their experience in the hobby and there is a thread started for them in the forum that month allowing them to field questions and elaborate, or just sit atop their pedestal as creator of "TOTM"
check out this months.. it's beautiful.
Tank of the Month

I see no reason why we couldnt have "Viv of the Month" or atleast do it quarterly or bi-monthly untill you feel there is enough emerged hobbyists to pick a new one every month.

You will notice at the bottom of the RC homepage there is also a "Reefslides" with great photo's fitting a category that changes monthly, and also articles written by the local experts.....

hope that gets your thoughts stirring....
