The word Prophylactic also means preventing or contributing to the prevention of disease; a remedy that prevents or slows the course of an illness or disease. This was the intended meaning of the word in my reply.

By the way, for the record I am a he, not a she.

oops.. many appologies for typing she i knew you were a he i think i accidently typed she.. you know the excitement of talking about prophylactics and all lol yes i do know that there is more than one use of the word prophylactic =) was simply trying to be funny i thought it was lol you have to admit tho the word itsself is a pretty funny word! even without its common meaning

I'm surprised you have a beetle investation. I'd have to agree that the beetles likely came in either in your substrate or on the plants themselves. The dry-ice method mentioned would be the safest non-toxic method for dealing with them. Again just make sure to remove the BP. If you decide to stay with your naturalistic set up, then you should plan on repeating the dryice treatment at least a couple of times a couple weeks apart.
