I didn't find anything in the search but I'm sure I'm not the first person to wonder this. How safe would it be to use rain-x on the front glass to prevent water spots. Every time I mist I get water spots and after a few days I have to wipe the front glass to get rid of water spots. So I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it or has any suggestions as to why or why not.
Only problem I can see is that Rain-X is harmful to the frogs. Since it actually coats the glass to keep the rain away,no telling what chemicals are in it.
Yeah, I would base it on: Do you want to drink it? If not, don't use it. If it is not safe for you to drink, it is not safe for the frogs to absorb through their skin.

the primary active ingredient in Rain-X is denatured alcohol and denatured alcohol is any form of ethanol that has been made toxic by having the consumable portion removed. so i would have to wager and say it would be very very unhealthy for your frogs to be around =)
Well I see plenty of frogs in ponds and would not drink that water.
imagine the water supply one or two centuries ago, i sure wouldn't want to drink that either. frogs and other lizards in their natural environment have ways of dealing with the microorganisms in the water that we don't have any longer. the chemicals in most glass cleaners or coatings aren't good for any organisms period. granted if your pet doesn't rub on the glass or water doesn't come in contact with the glass (which would make this subject pointless in the first place) it might not be a big deal. but to err on the safe side is best, just wipe down the glass once a day and not worry about it. you've got to feed them right, so you're in the tank anyway.
Well, I don't think it was silly at all... Just because you don't WANT to drink pond water doesn't mean you COULDN'T if you had to. All you would have to do is boil it. However, NO amount of boiling is going to make Rain-X ok for you to drink. You don't have to be rude, when all I was doing was answering your question.
Seriously, don't ask for advice if all you are going to do is say the answer you get is silly.

I drink chlorinated tap water every day with no ill effects, now I doubt you would suggest using chlorinated water for my frogs. Your reply to my question was not an answer it was a silly uneducated guess just like most of your 600 posts.
ok i WILL lock this thread if the namecalling and arguing doesnt cease there is absolutely no reason there should be any arguing she was simply trying to give you a personal opinion as to her advice on the topic. froggsong is quite knowledgeable is many areas this may not be one of her better areas of knowledge but due to her nature of wanting to try and help people she will offer her ADVICE even on a subject she isnt specifically a "expert" in it is after all better to get several points of view rather than none even if they are all speculation. and as for the comment on drinking chlorinated water you may not feel any immediate or obvious adverse effects from drinking it but i assure you it isnt good for you and a fact of a matter is lightly chlorinated water containing only slight traces of chlorine as tap water ideally should be probably wouldnt harm a frog to much extent it is in fact everything else in the water that is seriously adverse to your body.. i wont even go into the physiological and biological differences that effect this situation. on a side note i suggest you do a bit of studying to find just what is actualy in you cities water supply and im sure you will be quite appalled at what you have been drinking. froggsong as not to be biased i must tell you please do not have knee jerk reactions if someone wants to insult or otherwise forsake your given opinions allow them to settle in their own decisions, afterall in the end if he wants to put rain-x on his glass it is his own decision and if his frogs later suffer from it he will quite certainly reflect back upon the given advice and most likely regret writing your advice off as rubbish, you afterall did your best and gave him you opnion.
