Edit- I know now it is called "Great stuff" or something.
I have a few questions for people looking at this thread now.
A few have been answered.
1. Can I make a ledge out of gs about 10 inches from the base of the tank up?(Thanks frogsong for answering, if anyone else wants to add more detail then please do so)
2.Is there a possibility of making a cave? If so do i just spray alot, then carve with a sharp knife?

As far as i know, this is expensive foam. You can shape it...altought in a very limited way.
When the foam is cure, nothing else as to be done with it. It will resist water and is pretty much safe...In fact, your consern, on this matter will be the fact that foam looks like $h!7 in your terra. Thus you WILL want to do something with it!!!

I'm working on a corner tank with a foam background. I figured out where I wanted driftwood ledges, glued them in, then foamed the tank.
I also sprayed multiple times with foam to create more "branches" with the foam and have an area with cork bark as well.
I think it looks great. I just finished covering all the foam with coco fiber.
You can do exactly what you were hoping for. I cant speak for tiamat, but if I were you, I would simply ignore that post entirely.
Do a search on "gs" or "great stuff" or "foam" and you'll see lots of threads about it's use. I think a lot of people that want ledges tend to stick some type of wood into the foam, but some just do it with the foam itself as well.
I was reading earlier about somone doing a vertical tank with a foam background, and made "branches" coming accross the sides of the tank as well. So the entire back was foam, and 2 sides just had "branches" on them. Neat idea.
Here is some photos of a tutorial i gave one of my friends with some left over parts. I won't explain every pics, and this is not the absolute truth about terrarium building, but i hope it will help you a bit. That also covers issues you had in some other post i believe.

If you just want ledges made with GS (which you CAN mold, after it has skinned, you should wait about ten to fifteen minutes after you spray it, just be gentle, otherwise you will completely flatten it out), You can either apply the GS directly to the glass, or you can apply it to a sheet of wax paper, let it cure, carve it, and then affix it to the wall with silicone. Check out my frog toad tank build log, you will see that I did several in that tank: http://www.vivariumforum.com/communi...xperiment.html.
And postal, please don't think I am being rude, but Tiamat has already said (in another post you may not have read) that English is a second language for him, so please take that into consideration when you read his posts. It was probably that that made the post come off that way. I think his point was, yes you can use it, yes it can be molded, to a certain degree, and that you don't HAVE to do anything else with it, but you will want to, because it will look like crap in it's original, naked form. Correct me if I'm wrong, Tiamat.
