Default Frogs and Killifish

Hello!

I am new to this site, and vivariums. I haven't started to set mine up yet, so I am free to any advise and have no opinions... yet. I want to set one up a 20-gallon tank. My dad and I have 3 tanks (for fish) set up. A 20, a 40 breeder, and a 90. This one is mine to do with what i please! And I have always liked Killifish (a beautiful species). I was looking at a book for aquarium design, half of the shown killi tank was above water. I was thinking and would like to put a fgrog with my killis, Killifish aran't aggresive to other species and are said to be good with amphibians. The tank will incluse a waterfall, two thirds of the tank will be above water, so think of it as a 10 gallon.... any suggestions on frogs? We've hade a chameleon before but I'ma beginner in frogs. So keep it simple... Thanks!

Would the frog get big enough to eat the killis? Probably the reason you saw them in a 1/2 tank is because killis are amazing Olympic jumpers. I thought I had my Eclipse secure (they're about 1 solid piece) but my A. riggenbachi (god rest his soul) managed to leap out of a hole no larger than a small cigar's diameter! Even if the frog wouldn't go into the water after the killi, it's possible the killi might get chomped if he flopped onshore.

If you're interested in experimenting, I'd set the tank up with the parameters you'd need to keep the killis (usually soft, acid water with some kind of cover-- key for some as they can be quite snipey with each other) but start off with something cheaper, like rasboras or something. Just not too tiny. If the frog doesn't eat them, chances are you'd be okay with a killi or two. Just remember their jumping might make them more accessible to the amphib. Also, you probably know this, but lots of frogs are surprisingly crappy swimmers and can drown in water that's too deep, so make sure you have ways for it to crawl out.

Awww... makes me miss my riggenbachi. He was great-- ate bloodworms off my fingertip.

PS: Remember that with fish and amphibs, with little exception, if it fits in its mouth, it will try to eat it!

You might want to look into yellow and black walking toads. They stay small, dont have the toxic propertys of dart frogs or fire bellied toads, and what I have read on them says they are rather decent swimmers even chasing food into the water. with thier apatite though if your fish were small enough they would eat them. 40mm would be considered a very large female walking toad though. also called bumble bee toads. tindomul1of9 has some pictures of them on here somewhere

Well, the tank will be half way full and have a slight drop off, for safety purposes, I don't think I will start with rasboras as I have had odd experiences with them in the past (unexplained fish death). i think I will but the fish first (you can hatch them from eggs... really cool!) and about a month and a half-2 months later I will get the toad, yes, the little bugger mentioned earlier is cute, I'll get him, i didn't want poison dart anyway! Oh, and sorry about your killi...

I know FBTs will eat Guppies though. You might have some missing Killis.

Frogs mixed with fish in a half full tank seems to be very popular.....
