People generally use fish tanks because they are easiest. They are already assembled, and water tight. Alot of lizards don't recognize glass though, and will try to get out, banging themselves (especially the snout) against the glass. It isn't as much of a problem with some lizards, but it can happen with any of them (snakes too). That's why more people are starting to go with wooden enclosures (apparently just not anyone on here! lol), it is easier to keep the sides opaque and non-reflective. However, if you make a foam background on three sides, it wont be an issue. It is also good to put something around the bottom of the front of the glass to keep them from doing it.
But yeah, an aquarium is just fine

. Just make sure that it is big enough for what you are going to get. It is best to start out with the size they will need when full grown so you don't have to upgrade later, but starting small is fine as long as it is big enough for the lizard for a few months at least.
Take your time when you build the vive, and have fun!
