Well, I better ask while I'm here, has anyone else had problems feeding? If so, how did you all get them back on track?
ive never had basilisks, but any herp ive had that wouldnt eat, was mostly because of boredom, IMO. if i have problems getting herps to eat i begin to try many different types of food items. a basilisk that size should easily take crickets, grass hoppers, roaches, butter worms, small horned worms, wax worms, meal worms, and prolly more i cant think of right now. i havent found a herp yet that wouldnt eat a butter worm. i read somewhere that they emit a subtle smell tha treptiles pick up on. its kind of like a genetic reaction to eat them. i dont know how true that is, as it was passed on to me by a fellow hobbyest, but i believe it. did you try feeding it different things or just mice?

tomorrow im getting a rescue malayan water monitor (varanus salvator)
it was handed into the herp shop where i work becuase it is a biter and is now 4 ft long, im going to tame it up and keep it as it obviously needs a lot of time spend with it and i hate to see things got rid of when they get too large, im building an 8ftx6ftx8ft enclosure for it so i should be able to have a pretty large water area as well as lots of plants and stuff, its currently living in a 6ftx2ftx2ft glass tank.
i'll post pics up of it tomorrow

I saw a collared lizard at the American Museum of Natural History in NY in Januaury. They had a live exhibition of reptiles. Nice lizard!

Not so, they are still abundant. People say they have spread as far as 10 miles! Thats as close as I have ever gotten to having lizards.
This really doesn't sound like a good idea. Non-native species can really mess with stuff like insect populations and so forth. But what do I know compared to a professor I guess, he had to sit through four years of college to let lizards go into the wild!

Note: I'm not trying to be rude or dig at your professor friend, just expressing my views.
