Default Taricha granulosa, Rough Skinned newts!

I just got two of these, one male, one female. The female looks heavy with eggs. I put them in a brand new 20 gallon long. Its only gravel, drift wood and some plants. I need a filter for the water, and any suggestions would be appreciated!

Here are the pics:
Pic of the tank,

Here is the male, Kookie

Here is the female, she wouldnt come out from under that.
Her name is Be-Bop-A-Lula

They seem happy in my 20 long. Im still learning how to feed them. Sometimes they are ravaged, and sometimes they pay no heed to food.

Wow! Those are a pair of beautiful newts! How big can that species get? I have a firebellied newt and he (well, I haven't identified the gender) hasn't gotten very big over the past 3 years.

Firebelly newts stay small.
Rough skinned newts, thats as big as they get, 5 or so inches.

we were at a family members house in south western pa this summer and saw lots of newts and salamander in the streams. We also found a very uncommon and large salamander colony that we are keeping an eye on.

beautiful pics and tank.
Lovely newts. You've done a good job.

P.S. One of my firebellied newts is called Cookie too (but spelt with a C not K)

All is not well with her. She stopped eating a while ago, and I guess has reabsorbed all her eggs. She's as thin now as the male was.
Plus the male died a few months ago. Cause unknown. He was fine one day, dead in the water the next.
I'm having a real tough time with this one.
I try to feed the female chopped up earthworms, mealworms, waxworms, crickets, even fruitflies. Nothing is working. She take notice, sniff a little and then turn away. Never even a bite.

I'm sorry about that.
I hope it gets better for you.
