掛物 or かけもの . I think it refers to the japanese art made on a rolling scroll.

or the only thing i could think of is 'broken object'. Kake standing for 'in pieces' and mono defining not a person, but an object. Mono at the end of word is for objects, not for persons....i think.

It should be like taberu (食べる . to eat) and mono (物 . an object) to give tabemono (食べ物 . food).

Nani tabemono o tabemasu ka? (bad japanese, but then, i am no expert!)

Hmmm... usually that rolling scroll (which is usually hung on a wall) is "kakejiku" not "kakemono" and "kakeru" refers to hanging or hooking something up. Actually "kake" could refer to many things that's why I was uncertain what the meaning was. "Mono" can be a thing or a person too, so I thought they were referring to a person since it was someone's name.

And yeah your japanese grammar is bad "Nani tabemono o tabemasu ka?" should be "Nani o tabetai desu ka?" but I know what you meant, you were trying to use tabemono in a sentance for this example?

When they come back maybe they will explain? Maybe it's just bad japanese also?

I made a suposition. Alone, i know mono means a person. but when it is attached at the end of a word, all the words i know, refere to an object.

tabetai, wich kind of terminology is it? does it link a verbe to its usual object? it that case, i guess that would be why you don't specify tabemono. 'tai' including food/eat at the same time?

Actually I'm glad someone here has a common interest in Japanese so that's all good.
The way you worded it like: "what food do you want to eat?"... usually said like "what do you want to eat?" No need to actually mention "food", right? (Sauf pour une personne qui ne mange pas tousjours le manger humain? ) hehehehe

tai = want. taberu is the verb infinitive. If you want to use "tai" you have to omit the "ru" at the end.

Some examples of mono at the end... (hehehe)
Bakamono = stupid person
Namakemono = lazy person
etc....

so i would have to say: nani o yomitai desu ka?' for 'What do you want to read?' or meaby is it 'yotai'?

it is to make sure i understand the use of this 'tai'. is there a limit (as long as it make sens) to its use with verbs? Or is it a general rule/wording in japanese?

Yes "yomitai" is right. And Yes use "tai" with verbs. Another example would be a guy saying to a girl: "Yaritai?"
