this method is a great way to "steralize" new additions to your viv. could even be done in a sealed tupperware with holes drilled into the lid

I don't have the vivarium step up yet fully, I just bought the plants I can't get the animal yet. So can I just use the CO2 in the vivarium? How long do you keep it in and then air it out?

Sorry about all the questions.

go ahead and use it in the viv.
1-2 hours should be more than enough time to rid the plants/viv of any pests. make sure you have a good cover on the viv, but NOT an air tight seal.

the viv should allow the pressure of the co2 to escape, but not allow fresh air in.

alright i've got a few quick questions i'll post here instead of in a new thread:

1) to the author... i've used the exo terra moss as my ground substrate and it seems to hold moisture a lot longer than the coco husk i used on my BG (i didnt think about the way this would look before i did it). do you still mist it every day?

2) when you use the dry ice method of debugging your vive do you change the water out afterwards? if i remember my chemistry correctly some of that CO2 should dissolve in the water creating carbonic acid.

thanks

you still mist it everyday unless it's not necessary ie. your humidity is ideal.

you can change the water immediately or you can run your water feature overnight to gas it out. anything more than a slight change should not be permanent.

I didn't change out any water for 2 weeks (only changed it because I moved the tank.
I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about carbonic acid in running water. Especially without water dwelling animals. Of course if ii had water dwelling animals I would never have done that.

This tank stays pretty humid on its own. I only mist once a month and that's only to clean the plants. Infact, other than feeding the frog and a monthly mist it has taken very good care of itself. I almost forget about it untill Friday comes and I need to bring home crickets.

u think that has anything to do with that particular substrate's (the exo terra moss) ability to hold water for a relatively long period of time?
