Default This is my Ambystoma opacum, Edited 7/16/06

This is the only pic I have of my marbled salamander. I only have one, and its very very reclusive. It hides in its exoterra cave, and I only see it rear its head just to the edge of light and that when I know its time to feed it an earthworm. It goes after the earthworms like crazy. Becuase of these traits, hiw name is Gollum. I was pulling on the worm to lure/pull him out of the cave to get a good pic.

Looks like he's a tiny fella. Haven't ever seen that type before. Where did you get him? Have him long?

It was a gift from a Proffesor where I work, I got it in April. Don't know its age. He/she is about 5 inches long and a good inch wide.

very nice sal Tindomul. i had a lady at the pet store give me one of those a while back. she said it would go great in a paludarium that i had. i put it in there and did some research the next day. i found out that they didnt do well with deep bodies of water. upon arriving at my home that night (with intentions of moving it to a viv with shallow water) i found the little guy drowned i didnt even get to have him for 24 hours. i felt so bad. it was supposed to be a rescue project. well thatll teach me to listen to LPS folks (no offense to the few good ones out there).

Gollum is still alive and well, taking earthworms, waxworms, mealworms, and crickets that stray too close.
I'm sorry to hear about yours freek. My tank also has a body of water, but lots of land and its easy for them to move in and out. But I have never seen my Gollum leave the cave, so I don't know if it uses the water or not.
Did your Palludarium have no land mass?

it was a 110XH with a land platform of sorts across the back. it had a 12" deep pool with wood protuding out, but it just didnt have an easy enough exit point for him i guess. he was the only drowning victim the tank ever saw, so it wasnt too bad. just not good enough for him

heres one of my last pics of the tank, just for Ss and Gs

Wow! Your tank is awesome! Can you tell me a little more about how you build it? What have you put in it? I want to start building a tank and would like to make one that looks like that!
Thanks!
