i just obtained two baby rough green snakes today, and thought i'd share. they're very active exploring every inch of their new tank. very neat to watch. my klemmeri in the tank next to them seem to love watching them too and come right up to the glass.
a question though, do these guys need a basking light? their tank is about 85, and i tried one of those halogen spot lights on a dimmer but it reached temps of 100 which i guessed was too hot.
Oh man, is he ever cute !!! Have you fed him yet ? He looks like he'd chow down a worm. Nice viv. I see you have a piece of ficus pumilia in bottom right, that will grow like a weed. Well done, very nice pet !
i put a couple small crickets in there, but the snakes actually seem intimidated by them. i just got them yesterday though so it might take a few days to warm up to their new place. i plan on putting some worms in there too. in my experience the ficus does grow fast, but not too fast. i have it going up the back wall too, and hopefully it will give them some good cover.
I know this is late but I have 2 rough greens and they're awesome. From what i've found is that they need a few days without any disruptions to get acclimated to their cage. Did you buy them from a pet store if so it's really hard to get them to eat because of all the stress they're gone thru in pet stores, etc. But if you catch them yourself and give them a good cage there's hardly ever problems.
