Default brazilian rainbow boa in a vivarium?

I want to get a brazilian rainbow boa pretty quick here. But i want to know if i can keep it in a planted vivarium and if anyone has done it with this species before. I keep dart frogs, bred dart frogs and keep saltwater so im not a major noob. But when it comes to snakes i dont know the whole deal with heavily planted tanks and such. Can anyone give me some help here?

Big snakes never do well in a planted Viv, well actually its the plants that do not fair so well with a snake that size, id give a medium to large snake 20 min in a new tank before everything gets uprooted and tore into tiny tiny bits lol, would look good while its tiny, even a baby Boa has enough weight to topple most live plants common to Vivs but eventually you'll have to take out the plants. Or go with sturdy fakes, maters not how terrestrial a snake is, they always climb a new home. Always......

the snake would be fine. you'd have to find sturdy plants that'll fit. a pretty large enclosure would open up your options.

One thing to keep in mind is that it'll get very dirty and it's important to keep clean - it will be a hard job to keep clean in a vivarium with such a large snake.
I'd go with fakeplants or very large plants

While I agree with you to a point, Kelwo, the whole point to a vivarium is that you don't have to clean it like you would a tank with artificials and whatnot. The whole system is setup up like a tiny piece of nature, the waste breaks down to feed the plants. Mind, this might make keeping mites away a bit more of a problem... And of course dirt is going to get very dirty, lol... It's dirt! (just being funny, friend, not making fun of you.)

Yeah I know that, but I think it'll be problematic for a vivarium to take care of the crap from a 2m snake :P

not at all... just pick it up at least once weekly... or if you notice it earlier. i have a 2m snake in something somewhat naturalized and it's very easy to care for.

Not to dig up a dead post and then hijack it, but beck, I'm curious as to your naturalized snake setup! What kinds of plants can stand up to a large snake?

fake ones ... small sturdy bushes and some grasses in less travelled areas (not where the little bugger likes to curl up daily) i'm sure would fare well also. some sturdy creeping vines surely would do well along a concrete b/g too i'm sure as well as possibly some mosses in between cracks and such. other than that i would think one could do a tree trunk and have some nice root wood breaching the grounds surface to complete the look.

i believe though the question that response was to was referring to cleaning poo though. i'm not sure whether plants are in with him was relevant.

Hi, if you want nice and natural tank for you Epicrates you have to be smart while desciding where to plant your plants . Whit large snake itīs better to have plastic plants or nothing, but i donīt think that E.c.c. is such a giant. You have to chose plants wich are docile and not so easy to break. Also, if you have plants and your snake will get parasites itīs very dificult to get rid of them.

Natural terarriums for E.c.c.:
