Default Whey protein in cricket food?

has anyone ever used it to boost the protein content of their cricket food?
im talking about the stuff body builders use. a lot of them have artificial sweeteners in them which probably isnt good, but some dont.

If it's protein, and...ONLY protein, I would think it's ok. But the stuff for animals is cheaper I think, so I'd just buy it that way.

by volume the body builders stuff is cheaper... there are also different compounds and different bonds are used for different reasons and different muscle types... for instance if an educated bodybuilder notices his inner quads are not getting striations he'll find a compound with proteins that affect fast twitch muscles... if he needs to build bulk in his chest he'll find one that supports that function... there are so many different protein pairs and some halves can combine with others making useless pairs which in turn results in loss of muscle mass due to reduced availability of not only the proteins in the bottle but also the ones your body makes naturally... this increases protein in the bloodstream and waste which in turn worst case scenario can totally shut down your kidneys suddenly... this is science here... no lab rats for me... if you happen to find the exact compound used for reptiles/crickets then maybe... i would not trust it though cause manufacturing methods could change one molecule and the scientific name could be the same, yet it could still be harmful... many people have done steroids for decades without any failure and statistics in the 90's showed the adverse affects to overloading with the wrong proteins can be devastating and in some cases a big enough contributor to certain problems that steroids alone may have not been a problem... i would not trust it!!!

i was a personal trainer in high school and now have kidney problems! that is how i know... better safe than sorry... it will work for some time probably... but these problems are the type that build up slowly and silently until it's too late leaving you seemingly healthy as a horse till all hell breaks loose.

i thought it would probably be useless, but i was walking by gnc today and the thought crossed my mind... i didnt realize that stuff was so potentially bad for people. not being a body builder, i wasnt even sure what it was for.

thanks for the responses!

ALL of this information is false!, or at least misleading. So don't loose hope to one of the best ingredients nature offers. Quality whey with little calcium and other high potentcy ingredients is not bad for you. There are extensive studies in humans, lab animals and dogs (their full life) that the issue was not the protein but freeloader ingredients in many proteins especially during growing stages of the bone for bone structure by calcium and liver issues proven to not be elevated by quality proteins. I would look for whey in health food stores/markets and not your body building centers for this. Also, protein is not for bigger muscles, it helps most tissues repair including immune system. If your skin is not in the best of shape, cut out sugars and high carb, make a whey shake a day then come back here and tell me this stuff is only for bodybuilders. Its no miracle powder, but it is more amazing than a muscle builder. Here is at least a dog study...

Also check out wickapedia for the differences in whey. Personally I have used whey before other cricket dusts where available...BUT I can't say that the extra amino acids in whey are needed by herps. lol so the debate goes on.

you're kidding me... wikipedia to end an argument over 15+ yrs of experience and studying... not realistic... also there is more to it... there is a cation exchange and if the exchange rate is not correct than it can cause many problems... i almost broke a world record with a kidney stone at 25 yrs old.

as for your reference link... the first paragraph stresses importance of quality... quality for dogs, herps, and humans are way different. second paragraph clearly states protein nutrition is still not completely understood. and when did nature start manufacturing the products we see in the market??? note: dogs can pass extra proteins at will with no harmful side effects in most cases... not every animal can!

here is the first 2 paragraphs:
"The article referenced below does not show protein as a problem, but rather states the importance of it in a dog’s diet. The need for a high quality protein is explored in puppies and throughout all stages of a dog’s life. While the article admits that not everything is known about protein and dogs, excess protein is not a problem given in amounts greater than recommended, as long as the quality of the protein is good.

PEDIGREE
“Protein nutrition is obviously still not completely understood, however it is an essential part of every dog’s diet. You can’t give too much protein in your dog’s diet; however quality not quantity makes the difference.
”"

and who exactly do you think gnc caters to... body builders, health nuts, naturalists who have been led astray by marketing and hippies who need urine cleaners! if it wasn't for body builders gnc would have never got off the ground!

do you know what an amino acid is... it is one half of a protein! how are you going to get rid of freeloader ingredients??? liver is not kidney... where excess protein goes. do you think whey is that much different at a market??? worse in most of my experiences!!! it is for bigger muscles... when you work out you are damaging in hopes to repair bigger and better... come on now that is common sense... yes there are other uses... otherwise we wouldn't be talking about turning geckos into little schwarzeneggers!

i understand you believe in it... i don't and i'm educated why also... i can't say that products made for our animals are what they need to be, but neither can you... noone can say proteins pose no risk regardless and that has been proven on many operating tables... like the 2 operations i had for 1 stone... 2 months of urinating only blood (not urine) thanks to these lovely products you like so much i feel qualifies me to say danger is evident... 15 yrs of research and family that works in the medical field who i've picked clean mentally qualifies me to say i have a clue... WACKYPEDIA... or however you wish to spell it can be edited by anyone... i can change that page to say used motor oil is great to fertilize your lawn with right now... WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT???

EDIT: PLEASE POST BACK... THIS SHOULD BE FUN!!! also skin is a muscle... that's why protein works!!! immune system???... protein is meat... amino is half of 1 protein bond... 1 protein splits to 2 halves... bonds w/2 others and becomes 2 wholes... your scar or scratch goes away... if protein is helping your immune system it is because something torn, scratched... whatever is done healing and that ORGAN is now helping or being less of a burden!!! take strep throat for example... many people think this is a sicknes... it is actually a symptom... when your body can combat that and heal your scratched throat or vise versa it will concentrate the rest of the white blood cells to the next issue... this is not necessarily helping with the immune system, rather being less of a burden... like giving you a helper at work... not making you better at your job!

funny enough this advertisement came up in the side bar on this post... notice how many aminos there are in the human body alone... a couple of them can be bonded differently making different proteins all together... UNJURY Medical Quality Protein Nutrition Facts

side note: calcium + oxolates + protein = what???

bottom line hewe... if you can find the exact same compound as that in reptile dust... and they are isolated with nothing else... then go for it... i just really doubt if it is made for people it will be in the same ratios as those made for reptiles... maybe different aminos altogether... if you can create those ratios mathematically and clean of anything else you'll easily be able to market your mix... you want it real clean so check out laboratories/health food suppliers... not markets... know the product you are buying... i used to use a couple of labs for proven supplements and some can be found just by brand name anywhere... not everything works and some have proven to do more harm than good... these fall under herbal supplements and really are not regulated so research is key and knowing your product is key... if you do pretty well with fertilizer you can be taught... it's just a little more than your basic 3 numbers as is most fertilizer though... i personally would not trust it though... things can change instantly (commonly do) and the manufacturer is not held liable if it does not work or contain what it claims!
