I'm trying to set up a vivarium for white's tree frogs. I was wondering if Selaginella - Kraussiana Aurea would work as a ground cover, as opposed to something like pillow or carpet moss. Thanks!
i am sorry noone has answered your question. i, myself cannot but stick around it should be answered eventually. if you have any other questions don't hesitate.
I have never had frogs, but in a moist viv, Selaginella will spread quit rapidly. It should be able to handle getting tromped on by frogs with no problem.
is that the stuff they sell as club moss or just as a tropical plant? if so, i have never been able to get it to survive the transplant. i've even tried leaving it in the pot with no luck... maybe too much light?

Let it get its roots settled well before introducing the frogs, as White's can be quite destructive to plants. I've given up on keeping anything alive on the ground, and just covered mine with leaf litter.

Hmm, as "clubmoss"? I don't think so but let's face it anything is possible when common names are used/misused.
I can't recall having much difficulty getting it to survive transplant. How moist is the substrate?
If ya want to try the Selag, let me know ... mine could use a pruning. I'm sure we could come up with something. Also if you like, Meg, I can try to get a closer shot of my Selag so you can see if it is what you're thinking of.
from the pic you have posted, it looks the same as one of the different varieties i have purchased in the past. i've bought it from home depot as a "tropical plant" in 2" pots and as "club moss" in larger pots... neither have any growing info or proper name on the tags... there is a light green type that is more wispiy than the others that is my fave.
