so the girlfriend and i fell in love with some FBTs the other week and decided to bring them home. i made a plaud for them in about three hours(really fast considering i used silicone and a false bottom and everything). it was a stupid move to get them in the tank so quick but i had get-there-itis. i really wanted to see them in there. so about three days later the water clouded up from the silicone and i had to pull them out of the tank. they're doing fine thankfully. i looked around at some other tanks and found some styles that i liked for tanks since i really didn't like the one they were in originally.
its a ten gallon tank with river pebbles and coco fiber. the background is a hermit crab climbing background i found at petco. its made of coconut fiber and cost 5 bucks. uber easy.
they seem to like it, especially the background since they can climb it. i was surprised, i didn't think they could do that. i'm much happier with this set up.
nice little setup. Just a heads up to ya though. They are known escape artists so make sure there's no holes they can get out of (filter holes in canopy). I've owned these guys before and they will climb like crazy.

yeah i've got them in a tank with the slide on screen that snaps shut nice. the only thing i have to watch for is the background, it's not completely secure on the top so they can get back there. i had a regular fish tank lid on it and one of them got out. i almost stepped on the little turd while looking for it. glad i got to him before my cats did.
Yeah, if your cat ate one of these guys it would probably be pretty bad! Mine climbs too, I don't think that is one of the things that you hear of before you get them. I found mine at the top of the vertical ten gallon I had them in more times that I can count... Sometimes I could never figure out how he got where he was... I have some pics too, I'll post them:
And here he is, isn't he gorgeous?

Meghan, so you would recommend a FBT for a beginner? I would really like to get a frog for a new viv I am thinking about. I have had White's tree frogs and a pacman frog in the past. They are diurnal and eat mainly crickets, right? They need a land area and a clean water area as well? Could fish live in the water without being eaten? Let me know what you think!
I had fish in with mine for a long time, sometimes he ate them, but most of the time he didn't. Mine eats crickets and worms (he likes worms very much, but you have to dangle it in front of them so it moves enough for them to know it's food, in my experience). I would recommend that you get more than one though, they seem to do better in a community tank. I'd say two or three would be good, depending on the size of the vive.
FBT's are great beginner animals. and they are very social. most frogs/toads really are not but theses guys do best with at least 2. if you have room for four get 4 or more

Worms are okay for FBTs, but sometimes the worm will come out whole... *ewww*
~* With the set-up... more plants need to be in there for your frogs to be more secure and "safe" feeling. One little hide aint really going to do it... I have a canopy in my tank, so 1/3 of thier tank is covered by dense plants. When I was a beginner, I had not that much plants in there... They would always walk all over each other and try to climb wall (one of them to the point quit eating because he was so determined to climb the walls)... its a 20g long tank, and they were climbing on each other....
Also... bamboo doesnt really do good in FBt tanks. Some people might be blessed with green lushes of bamboo stalks thriving, but most just turn yellow to brown and die.
