Default Water Depth For Fire Bellied Toads

I have one Fire Toad and planning to redo he's tank. I see most people are using about 4~6" (10~15cm) deep ! Is that to deep ? Do they real swim down that low ?. Right now my Fire-BT in a tank with about 1.5" (3.8cm) deep. He spend most of the time in the water floating around at the top.
I do not wish to make the water to deep for he if he's not going to make use of it.

As for Terrarium Furnishings

1) I have a big rock that have two holes in it will be great for some long leaved plants to grow inside it.

2) And one 12" long driftwood bridging from the land arae to the water side.

3) A tall water fall made up of flat river rocks stack up on top of others and being glued to together.

I'm planning add two more Fire toads after all is done

Fire Bellied Toads rarely if at all swim under the water. They swim on the surface. However, having deeper water allows for more plants, & maybe some fish.

I think it depends on your toads. I've heard (and read) that they prefer shallower water, however 4 of my 6 LOVE to dive underwater and swim around in the deeper parts of my viv, sometimes they even sit under water for a minute or two before popping back up. Best way to figure it out is to give them a gradient by having one part of the water area barely submerged and then slope it down deeper and deeper. The deepest part of my tank is ~6-8 inches

Default Thank You Avery3

Thank You Avery3 for providing photo proof Fire-BT do Dive into deep water.
It looks like he is using about 3" (7.5cm) deep. So I'll follow his lead with 3"

Hi there Chopstick! I took a look at your tank pics that you have on your site, and I was reading on another thread of yours that you were wondering about him climbing the glass all night. It is most likely because there are no plants or shelther in the tank for him to feel secure. They do climb, but if they are happy, they don't hardly climb at all (mine rarely do, unless it is up to a spot to chill on). I probably have about three inches of water or so as well, with lots of pothos in the water for them to climb on, hide under, and swim around. They love it. I have lots of tall plants in the land portion of the tank, and they feel very secure because of the plants. Once you get some plants in there, he will likely stop climbing. If you put plants in the water, my guess is he will do more than float on the top.
