Default Misting

Hey there..

Do my FBT's need misting ? I had just a commen toad and I would mist the tank every so often..

I've been looking around the web, and haven't read anything on it, but thought I'd ask you folks here..

I haven't kept toads, so I don't know the answer. But, I wanted to give you these links. I go to this site for all my reptile info/caresheets and thought it might be useful to you as well I don't see any mention of misting, btw.

Fire bellied toads

Main amphibians page

Good UK site with illustrations

It is mostly up up to the owner if they want to mist. A lot of caresheets say that they are suppose to have high humidity and that you should mist a light spray daily.

Personally, I mist because it is hard to keep humidity to about 50% in my tank. My frogs really seem to be more active, eating well, and alert when the humidity is at about 50%.

Misting helps with humdity. If humidity is already good in your tank then it is really up to you if you want to mist or not.

Just my 2 cents.

That makes sense. Just out of curiosity, have you tried using a bubble stone attached to a fish air pump to create a spray/sprinkle-y feature? I have thought about doing that for my hermit crab, but since he's got a shallow bowl, it's not a good place for one. With the types of setups yall have, maybe that'd be a fun addition? (Course, I'm picturing it at night with a little blue led light illuminating it like a city fountain, lol).

Always good to have spray bottles around! I got a couple large ones ($1 at walmart) for misting my iguanas and hermie. They absolutely love it.

You want to treat FTBs like frogs not so much other toads as far as temp and humidity go.
