I've got six GTF's and I'm pretty sure I got at least two males. Two of mine are too young to sex just yet and the other two I'm pretty sure are females. The boys bark up quite the storm sometimes. It might be difficult to sex them at the pet store being that most I've seen are fairly young.

I hand feed all of my GTF's so they've become accustomed to hands being in their tank and will bite at my finger looking for food. It makes feeding them really quick. It also makes catching them easy too when I had to move them to a temporary tank. Just make sure your hands are always clean whenever you handle them.

For heat I recommend simply heating the water with a fully submersible aquarium heater. It works great for bringing up the temperature.

Post some pics of your Viv as you go!

Thanks Alex, will do

so i can do away with the heat mat, and just use a submersible?

My plan...and i will attempt to add a sketch a bit later (at work at the mo...sneaky post) is thus:

Square tank...roughly 18" wide, 18" deep and quite tall...all glass...create a false bottom of about 4" high from about 6 inches from the front of the tank...use pebbles and the like to "nature-it-up"...block it off so the froggies cant get behind it...add some plants - stems and big leaves and some hides on the ground (or do they prefer them up off the ground?)....

i will prob add a decent lamp with night/day settings so as to regulate the critters...

sound any good?

J

Sounds like a good plan!
My tank is similar but on a smaller scale (13x13x17). I've got a heater in the water set on 74 and it does a great job of bringing the temperature up plus the water helps add humidity. It's setup under the eggcrate. The canopy I built has a screened lid but it's mostly covered with a piece of plexiglass I cut to fit.

I would definitely go for the night light. When I built my canopy I put two bulb sockets on my canopy and I have to say we thoroughly enjoy watching them in the evening. It's just a standard aquarium 15 watt bulb I got at Wal-Mart (the long ones). The other socket holds a 13 watt fluorescent bulb for daylight.
As far as hiding places, they'll hide wherever is available but they do prefer the high leaves. Mine usually stay up on the big leaves near the top where they overlap each other. One of my girls though prefers under a rock.

They do seem to like the large water area so I highly recommend having some sort of water feature beyond just a bowl. Something to think about.

Here's a link to my recent rebuild and a link to some before photos.

Have fun with it and keep us posted!
