the problem with me putting a pump/filter under the FB is it would be hard for me to clean it when needed, but i guess i could create a trapdoor somewhere in the false bottom that leads to it.

I should have been more clear. Point is you're starting to see the pro's and cons of the different system types.

There are many examples of people who've documented thier builds and have incorporated mechanisms to facilitate the maintenance of thier submersible filters. It's pretty important if you ask me because you almost become a "slave to the hobby" if you don't set it up properly at the beginning, if you see what I'm getting at, here. Might be worth searching on here to find some good examples of ideas you think would work with how you can set yours up.
