Default Newbie turtle questions...

Hi gang...
thought I'd move my questions from the introduction threads to the turtle section
Okay going with the sugestions that I got in introduction, I'm going to go with the 29gal tank. I know I need a canister filter - what do you guys think of this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...6&N=2004+22777 ?
I'm concerned with the water flow/pressure... I don't want the poor things to feel they're constantly swimming up the rapids! Right now I have them temporarily in a 10gal with a "reptile kit" submersible filter... and its fairly rinky-dink in my opinion, and I've had to do full water changes pretty much every three days.
I'd like to set the 29gal up so that its more asthetically pleasing (as well as turtle-pleasing habitat) - as opposed to just tank,gravel,suction-cupped basking shelf, heater,& pump workings... I was kind of hoping on some kind of bi-leveled bottom with maybe a small waterfall feature to hid the pump workings..? (I have been brousing the forum and am intrigued with that egg crate stuff!) - and going with cork instead of the very functional but ugly pre-formed suction cup shelf thing. How does the cork do with algae/slime build up? Will I need to be removing them for deep cleaning - and if so - with what?
I will be posting pics of the two cuties once I get my digital camera back from my friend - so you guys might help identify the smaller (2") turtle... but the larger one (4") is definitely a RES.
Feeding...
these buggers are clamering against the sides of the tank in their cute little feed me dance 5-8 times a day! How often are they supposed to be fed, and how much? Like I said in intro thread, they're getting crickets, rosy red feeder fish, & TetraFauna ReptoMin Baby floating pellets.

Thanks bunches guys, you've already been a great help!!!!

Go to the link on the other thread I put up austins turtle page it is great! also It is usualu a good idea to keep a turtle set up prety simple just becouse of sanitation at first especialy for begginer keepers or multiple turtles. that is my opinion though not a must, do what makes you happy as long as you are ok with the work load. I am appaled at the treatment they recieved. even out of ignorance it was wrong. you did not seem to have to much trouble finding info. your turtles are very lucky. Situations like this hapen every day and most dont turn out so well. The animals we encounter in the herp hobby are so different from a mammal pet. People dont stop to think about diferences in care and many sellers just want a fast buck. I want one of every thing, but I will nevewr have an animal I cant care for. All the stress relief and enjoyment I get from my critters is worth the cost and work, for me that is part of the fun it distracts me from all the problems I deal with in the day to day. You are doing a realy good thing for those little guys. I hope you feel good about it, you get a pat on the back from me!
